Day 10 and 11 - Leaving Duncan and entering Victoria

Business development officer at the Cowichan Valley Regional District, Cathy Lockman, gave us an interesting presentation of development and sustainability projects in the valley.

After a nice lunch with Duncan Rotary Club we had our presentation of ourselves and Norway. The flags were a nice gesture from the wonderful people we met here. Arthur and Adrienne drove us to Victoria for our next stay. Before leaving Cowichan Valley we went for some sightseeing and shopping in Cowichan Bay. This is a unique and historic waterfront community with a blend of boats, piers, bakeries, small shops and nice places for dining. Read more here: http://www.cowichanbay.com/

Arriving Victoria (the southern part of Vancouver Island) in the evening we attended a Rotary meeting and were welcomed by our host families. The following day we were taken to the exciting Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre where we could see fish, shell fish, jelly fish and other strange creatures exhibited. We were also allowed to touch the star fish and jelly fish.

We also got to visit the amazing Butchart Gardens with blooming flowers in every colour and trees from all parts of the world. The garden was formerly a quarry for limestone, but was transformed into this outstanding garden about 100 years ago. The garden is privately owned and is worth a visit! www.butchartgardens.com/the-gardens/what-to-see/what-to-see.html

There was also time for a visit at the pub!! The Prairie Inn is an old-style pub in Saanich with tasty food and a variety of beer.
