Day 26 - Vocational Day & Tacoma

Located at the foot of Mount Rainier and along the shores of Commencement Bay in Washington state. Tacoma is Washington state's third-largest city, with approximately 203,400 residents. Explore this government Web site to find out why Tacoma is known as the City of Destiny.

Tacoma became known as the City of Destiny in 1887 after it was designated as the Northern Pacific Railroad's western terminus in 1873.

Scores of immigrants flocked to our city then; and now as the city undergoes a thriving renaissance, we’re seeing another surge of immigration as residents and investors flock to this great destination.

The city that incorporated in 1884 has grown from its historical roots as a home of sawmills and a bustling port that exported goods around the world.
